Power Pack Program History
ICCAP’s Power Pack Program was established in 2009 to meet the weekend nutritional needs of children experiencing food insecurity in Indiana County. Currently, the program serves nearly 800 eligible children in 12 Indiana County Elementary Schools on a biweekly basis during the school year. Children are provided with a weekend package of food that includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and drinks. The program is funded by donations of food from local grocers, private contributions and volunteers from the community.
- Donations are inconsistent and jeopardize the security of the program
- 64.5% of the eligible children are not served due to funding limitations
- Meals are not provided every week, only bi-weekly – eligible children are asking for the food on the off weekends
Sponsor a child for only $3.17 per week, $13.75 per month or an annual contribution of $165. For more information contact ICCAP’s Food Bank at 724-463-7440.
The Power Pack Program was started back in 2009 when ICCAP was
approached by local elementary school Personnel that were concerned
about some of their students not getting enough food to eat over the
weekends. At that time, ICCAP assisted 162 students in five area
schools. Through the years, this program has grown and we are now
providing food on a bi-weekly basis to 775 children in all seven school
districts in all 12 elementary schools.
This program is strictly funded by donations. We have been approached by
school Personnel asking us if there’s a way that we could provide food
to needy students on a weekly basis. According to last year’s data from
all 12 elementary schools of the 4,645 students attending, 2,418
students were eligible for free and reduced lunches. Of those eligible,
only 775 were receiving food from the Power Pack Program. It costs $
5.00 per child per weekend and the program operates 32 weeks out of the
school year. Our goal is to increase the number of children served to
800 (still leaving over 1600 students who may not be getting enough food
to eat over the weekends). We are asking people to consider sponsoring
a child for a year. The cost would be 165 a year, 6.34 if paid bi-weekly, and 3.17 a week (paid per week). For more information contact ICCAP’s Food Bank at 724-463-7440.
